Cultural Attractions, Entertainment and Dining in Atlanta / Virginia-Highland area

The Gaslight Inn is located in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood, which is five minutes from Atlanta's downtown business/convention district. This neighborhood is home to an extraordinary concentration of shops, art galleries, restaurants, and theatres, all within easy walking distance of the Inn.

Restaurants

There are several helpful sites on the web which list and review local Atlanta restaurants. These include Atlanta.net (this site actually covers much more than dining), and Atlanta Restaurants.

Some of the excellent restaurants in the immediate area include Babette's Cafe (French), Dish (American Continental), Murphy's (New American Bistro & Wine Bar), Surin of Thailand, Award-winning Cafe Sunflower in Buckhead or Sandy Springs (Gourmet Vegetarian), and Cafe Diem (a European style coffee house/bistro).

Cultural attractions

This area of Atlanta is especially rich with art galleries, museums, and other cultural centers. Some of the most notable of these include the High Museum, The Cyclorama, Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, the Carter Center and Presidential Library, the Fernbank Natural History Museum, the King Center, Underground Atlanta, and the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center.

The Virginia-Highland neighborhood is also home to the largest collection of independent art galleries in Atlanta, such as the Marsha Wood Gallery, V. Reed, Back to Square One, Modern Primitive, and Eclectic Electric.

Entertainment

In addition to the many cultural and dining attractions, there is a wide variety of entertainment to be found in our neighborhood. Places to go range from relaxed pubs like Limerick Junction and the Highland Tap to the famous blues club Blind Willies to several coffee houses, including Starbucks and San Francisco Coffee. The Plaza movie theater is also a short walk away. For those willing to drive, such Atlanta favorites as the Fabulous Fox Theater, the Little Five Points district, the Variety Playhouse, the Alliance Theater, and the Buckhead community are all nearby. Don't forget about the local zoo, Zoo Atlanta, CNN Center, Stone Mountain Park, and the World of Coca-Cola.
